Aberystwyth University Womens Basketball Club
“See it. Try it. Love it.”
We are a friendly and welcoming club with a zero tolerance for the discrimination of a person based on their gender identity or sexual preference. By being part of our club, members will have a chance to learn to play basketball and be part of a team that acts as a second family. All level of abilities are welcome, from complete beginners to experienced players; we aim to improve skills on the court, and self-esteem through team cohesion and social events.
As well as focusing on training for the sport we love, we like to put an emphasis on the social side of the club. As such, we run themed socials every Wednesday night, which gives members of the club a chance to unwind and have fun as we attend our sponsoring pubs. Joining the ‘Aber Sharks’ family is the best decision you could make; we take part in as many events that the Union supports such as Superteams, Varsity and Aber Rugby 7’s. We feel that this gives members diverse range of social skills with other sports team members, and an enhanced student experience.
We compete in the British University and Colleges Sports (BUCS) Western 2B league on Wednesdays.
We also try to organise friendly matches with other local basketball teams.
As part of a campaign run by the union, our rainbow laces represent that ‘We don’t care which team you play for’.
